ANOTHER DAY

Good morning.

Welcome to another day.

Another day I did not deserve or ask for, yet somehow expected.

Another day of joy, laughter, food, and fellowship.

Another day of beauty and peace.

Another day of heartbreaking sorrow.

Another day of weeping with those who weep.

Another day of fear.

Another day of wonder.

Another day of pushing back the darkness.

Another day of trying to shine the light.

Another day of resisting this world and its priorities.

Another day of struggle against the machine that wants to own us.

Another day of forcing myself to be gentler than my heart wants.

Another day of fighting the demons that assail my self-control.

Another day of weakness and strength.

Another day of failure and success.

Another day of transgression and forgiveness.

Another day of sin and salvation.

Another day of repentance and faith.

Another day of gratitude and grumbling.

Another day of saying “No” to Jim.

Another day of denying myself and taking up the cross, only to fall on my face.

Another day of asking for healing, comfort, and wisdom; the things we all need.

Another day of telling my heart to stop complaining.

Another day of my heart not listening to me.

Another day of hearing the words of God to Cain, and to Jonah:

“do you do well to be angry?”

Alas Lord, No.

Another day of feeling the grief of a friend.

Another day of feeling my impotence to help them.

Another day of holding grandchildren tight.

Another day of praying for them. “Please God, protect this one!”

Another day to learn how to love; the one lesson that comes to us all every day.

The one test I seem to fail every day.

Another day to learn how to pray.

Another day of listening for Heaven.

Another day of telling Hell to shut up.

Another day to walk on a world I did not create.

Another day to breathe in air that was not owed to me.

Another day to gaze in awe at staggering glory.

Another day to call him Father.

Another day is starting, and I need to get moving.

It may sound like I have a lot to deal with.

But I am not complaining.

Because, for me, it is just another day.
